About 15 months ago, smarting from 2 shoulder surgeries and hitting a 50 plus birthday, I decided to break out of my exercise rut and find a trainer. While I am a very addicted runner and love to exercise, I had noticed that as I got older, I had less flexibility and balance, more creakiness in certain joints and less strength in certain muscle groups- including the invisible but important “core”. So I asked around and received the suggestion of Julie from a work colleague.
Julie is a different and unique breed of trainer. To say she is “holistic” would not do her justice. She does take a broad view of fitness and doesn’t miss a teaching moment when it comes to educating her clients about nutrition, diet, weight loss, stretching and focus. She is well studied across a number of fitness disciplines and obviously reads avidly. She frequently would quote recent evidence around health literature. She pushes hard but yet respects the fact that as one gets older there may be a few imitations that you have to work around. No problem.
Probably the most unique thing about Julie’s training is that it is training for the long haul - really for life. While I am sure that if you called her and said that you wanted to join the Marine Corps, she could simulate boot camp and whip you into tip top shape, her forte is really to lay out a plan that you can follow for life- that will age with you. She recommends a plan that will keep you fit, flexible, injury free and well nourished in mind and body over decades. It will be a plan that is fun, interesting and challenging and that will make you want to keep at it for a really long time. She is a really effective trainer and as a plus- an exceptionally kind, smart and funny person.
